Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote server or to exchange information between a hosting server and a client. As the information exchanged by the 2 sides is protected, a 3rd party can't intercept it, which makes SSH a preferred means of managing a web hosting account. The commands which could be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, in particular, the possibilities are limited since you'll not have root access to the website hosting server, so you could just create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, import and export databases, and so forth. These are all actions that are executed within the shared hosting account and don't require a higher level of access. Using a virtual or a dedicated server, you shall have the ability to set up server-side software or to restart the server or only a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, and if you do not use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are plenty of apps for other OSs, that you can use to connect to the remote hosting server as well.
SSH Telnet in Hosting
SSH access is offered with all hosting plans we offer. With some of them, it's provided as standard, while with others it is an additional upgrade you can add with a few mouse clicks from your website hosting Control Panel. You can obtain SSH access through the section related to it in which you will also find the details you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You will be able to select the password which you will use and, if needed, you'll be able to modify it with several mouse clicks from the same location. All commands which can be used with our shared packages are listed within a help article along with relevant examples. If the SSH access function is allowed for your account, you'll also be able to upload files using your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you will be able to obtain SSH access to it with simply a click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, supplied with all accounts. If your package doesn't support this feature by default, you shall be able to add it easily using the Upgrades menu. When you go to the SSH section, you'll find the information that you need to connect to the server via a command line or a desktop app - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter can be updated at any time, if needed. These login credentials are also required if you want to upload files through a secure connection and you wish to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service which we offer. A thorough list of the commands you can perform will provide you with a better idea of what tasks you can perform in your account and each is accompanied by a few instances of the syntax.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
When you get a new VPS server from our company, it shall provide full root access and you shall be able to connect to the server and to manage everything using an SSH console. The feature comes by default with all package deals, so you won't need to activate or upgrade anything. Your hosting server shall be set up shortly after you purchase it and the minute you get the Welcome e mail with the login information, you may connect via the server’s primary IP address and start working. As the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is isolated from the other accounts inside the physical machine, there'll be no restrictions with regards to the commands which you can use. You will have full root access, so that you could install and run any app that can work on a Linux machine, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot your entire machine or any software running on it.
